The good folks at Global asked me what was on my summer playlist. While we’re en route to Cape Breton, one band will be riding shotgun with us.
Ryan Parker’s Tragically Hip road trip
Each summer my wife and I pack up our minivan and drive approximately two-thousand (very long) kilometres from Toronto to Inverness, Cape Breton to visit my in-laws. Our must haves for the drive are:
- Our 3 kids
- Egg salad sandwiches (my wife’s thing, weird I know)
- A summer playlist
This summer is all about The Tragically Hip. Earlier this year the band announced that front man Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Despite the unfortunate diagnosis, the band will still be touring across Canada this summer. While my family and I won’t be able to attend any of the gigs, we’ll definitely be listening to one of Canada’s greatest talents as we travel across our beautiful country.
I’ll be listening to these Tragically Hip songs all summer: Everytime You Go, Little Bones, Long Time Running, Fully Completely, Courage, Wheat Kings, Nautical Disaster, Ahead by a Century, Bobcaygeon, In View, The Last Recluse, and Toot Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car by The Wiggles (got to keep the baby happy, too).
