Bill Neilson feels a certain affinity towards Gord Downie and what he’s going through because Bill’s going through it too. June Neilson, Bill’s wife explains that her husband has gone through six surgeries and lost much of his eyesight. After the broadcast, an anonymous donor sent over their Tragically Hip tickets to Global News for the Hip’s Friday performance and in the note she wrote, “When I heard why Bill loved the Tragically Hip there was nothing else I wanted to do but give him our tickets,” wrote the woman.“Music helps people get through hard times, makes people happy, brings people together,” she explained. “I hope the concert makes him smile and brings him happiness,” continued the note from the anonymous ticket donor. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
June said they have always tried to help others. “It’s hard for us to be on the receiving line of someone doing something so nice,” she said, explaining they are usually the ones helping others. Bill Neilson’s message to the couple who is giving them their tickets.“I love you, thank you very much.”
“They said they will cherish seeing the Hip, one last time.”
