I’ve heard many argue “well the fish do it” when talking about how it’s ok to pee in the lake. Ew.
I know I know so many people do it. Think about it though, you’re peeing in your bathing suit!
One story in Cottage Life talked about how it’s not a good idea…
“Adding urine to lake water can pose a health hazard and people should stick to their indoor facilities or an outhouse. Environmentally speaking, nitrates in urine can, in theory, promote algae growth and studies have shown that it can also carry trace amounts of pharmaceuticals or medicines, including estrogen from birth control pills that scientists believe can disrupt normal reproduction cycles in male fish. As far as human health is concerned, while urine is usually sterile, it can carry bacterial infections, such as leptospirosis, which causes flu-like symptoms and can also lead to meningitis.”
We used to boat near Big Chief on Lake Couchiching years ago and it was nicknamed Pee Bay because of all the people in the shallow water drinking and partying.
You know they’re all peeing in there.
When you’re at the cottage or out on a boat do you?
