In a recent interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, Jerry Seinfeld had some interesting things to say about his former sitcom.
Seinfeld claimed that Friends was basically a ripoff of his show. When it started, he figured the network wanted to “do [his] show with better-looking people. That’s what they’re doing there. And we thought, ‘that should work.'”
He added that the notion Seinfeld was a “show about nothing” was complete “nonsense” and was “made up by the press.” The phrase came about after an episode in which George pitched the series, Jerry, as a sitcom-within-a-sitcom with that tagline.
Seinfeld just wrapped up his eighth season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and said he would love to have Donald Trump as a guest, purely for the jokes. He said he would insist on driving with Trump in a convertible, because he wants to “see that hair fly.”
