Not your average birthday present but fitting for an extraordinary man.
Freddie Mercury, who would have turned 70 years old on Monday, had an asteroid named after him.
Asteroid 17473 was renamed as “Freddiemercury” in honour of the former Queen singer for his 70th birthday by The International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center.
Queen guitarist Brian May, released a video on the band’s official YouTube channel addressing the honour.
The video included a short clip of the newly-named asteroid:
It’s been noted how fitting the gift of an asteroid is, considering the legendary frontman once sang the line “I’m a shooting star leaping through the sky.”
