Virginia Hanlon Grohl is not only Dave Grohl’s mother–she is also an author.
Grohl has written a book that looks at what it’s like to raise a rock star from a parent’s perspective. From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars features Virginia Grohl’s own experiences raising the future drummer of Nirvana and Foo Fighters’ frontman, including exclusive family photos from Dave’s childhood. She also interviewed several other rock n’ roll parents that share their stories, including Marianne Stipe (Michael Stipe), Verna Griffin (Dr. Dre’s mother), Janis Winehouse (Amy Winehouse), and Hester Diamond (Beastie Boys’ Mike D).
The book’s description reads, “As Virginia watched her son’s star rise, she often wondered about the other mothers who raised sons and daughters who became rock stars…Were they as surprised as she was about their children’s fame? Did they worry about their children’s livelihood and well-being in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers?”
From Cradle to Stage is due in stores April 2017.
