Tragically Hip lead singer Gord Downie will perform two concerts in support of his solo project, Secret Path, honouring Chanie Wenjack.
The project includes 10 songs and a graphic novel by award-winning author Jeff Lemire. Secret Path was inspired by the story of Wenjack, a 12-year-old Ojibway boy, who died from exposure and hunger after escaping a residential school near Kenora, Ontario in 1966.
Downie will play two special shows– the first at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on October 18, followed by a performance at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on October 21. Times have yet to be announced.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday at 10am, with all proceeds going to a fund in Downie’s name at the University of Manitoba’s National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.
The music of Secret Path will be released October 18.
