Pigs were running loose in Burlington Wednesday morning after the truck that was carrying them overturned on their way to a pork processing plant.
Halton police said the pigs were on their way to Fearmans Pork Inc. when truck lost control and flipped shortly after 7 a.m.
Firefighters were among the emergency crews helping to herd the pigs into a yard. Angry animal activists also arrived on scene to protest the slaughter of pigs.
The truck driver was treated for minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to police.
The eastbound lanes of Appleby Line are closed at Harvester Road while police investigate the scene.
Fearmans Pork Inc. is the same slaughterhouse involved in the recent trial of a Toronto animal activist.
Anita Krajinc was charged with mischief after giving water to pigs headed for slaughter in June last year. She appeared in court on Monday.
