This clip from Chaing Mai, Thailand shows a young elephant attempting to save a man floating in a river.
Darrick Thompson is the co-founder of Save Elephant Foundation, and was swimming in the river when he called out to the animal standing on the shore. Kham Lha is one of the baby elephants rescued by the foundation, and misheard Darrick’s call as a cry for help. She then takes off into the river and offers Darrick her trunk.
Kham Lha and her mother are two of the 70 elephants rescued by the foundation, which provides a safe haven for elephants in Thailand to roam free and create bonds. The duo was rescued just last year.
It goes to show you that elephants really do remember.
