A message in a bottle sent out to sea by a New Hampshire man over 50 years ago has been returned to his daughter.
Clint Buffington is from Utah, and was on vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands when he spotted the bottle half-buried in the beach. The note inside the bottle read: “Return to 419 Ocean Blvd. and receive a reward of $150 from Tina, owner of The Beachcomber.”
The Beachcomber was a motel in Hampton, NH owned by the parents of Paula Pierce back in 1960 (who are now deceased). Pierce’s father had jokingly written the note and tossed it into the Atlantic Ocean.
The bottle travelled over 2400 kilometres to where Buffington found it, and he flew to Hampton to deliver the note back to Pierce. In keeping with the note’s promise, Pierce awarded him with the $150.
