At 27 years old, Shinri Tezuka is one of the few people left in Japan practicing the art of amezaiku, or candy crafting.
He is self-taught, and carves, sculpts, and paints the lollipops into intricate, edible sculptures. Tezuka can make anything from cats, dogs, and frogs, to elaborate goldfish and octopi. Amezaiku dates back to the 17th century, and he is one of only two artists left in Tokyo.
Watch the video–it’s amazing the sculptures he can make out of just some boiled sugar.
