A second round of applications and renewals to use the first High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes in the country are now being accepted.
The lanes, on the QEW, run 16.5 kilometres both ways between Trafalgar Road in Oakville and Guelph Line in Burlington.
Vehicles with two or more occupants, or green license plates can still travel in the lanes for free, but single drivers can apply for a 3-month permit which costs $180, and is renewable for a maximum of two terms.
“We’re committed to improving traffic flow and managing congestion for commuters, that is why we are pursuing new initiatives like our HOT lanes pilot. We want to give people better access to jobs and more travel options so that everyone can get to and from their destination as efficiently as possible.” – Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation
