WATCH ABOVE: Named one of America’s “7 original astronauts” Senator John Glenn has passed away. Mark Barger reports.
John Glenn has died at the age of 95.
He was the first American to orbit Earth in 1962, and was the last survivor of the original Mercury 7 astronauts.
His exploration included a return to space in 1998 aboard the space shuttle Discovery. He was 77 years old at the time.
Retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is among those remembering him.
He recalls the former space explorer as an American inspiration, who was well-loved.
Glenn died at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday afternoon.
He had also served as a democratic senator for 24 years representing Ohio.
