To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the songwriting partnership between Elton John and Bernie Taupin, the duo have partnered with YouTube for a filmmaking contest.
“Elton John: The Cut” is giving creative talent the chance to make official music videos for three of John’s classic songs: “Bennie and the Jets,” “Rocket Man,” and “Tiny Dancer.” These hits were released years before the music video era began.
Each song is looking for submissions within a specific filmmaking genre. “Bennie and the Jets” requires choreography, “Rocket Man” asks for animation, and “Tiny Dancer” will have live-action.
Three established YouTube creators with experience in choreography, animation, and live action will narrow down the list of submissions, with John and Taupin selecting the three winners. Pulse Films will produce the final versions of the winning films, that will debut in the Summer of 2017.
The contest ends January 23.
