A serious three-vehicle collision closed a portion of the Gardiner Expressway for over eight hours Tuesday morning.
All eastbound lanes were blocked between Kipling Ave. and Hwy. 427 since about midnight and reopened shortly before 8:30 a.m.
Police say a silver airport limo had rear-ended a blue Acura.
Six people were sent to hospital, including a man in his 20’s in life-threatening condition.
“We had four occupants in an Acura and we had three occupants in a silver Lincoln, an airport-limousine type vehicle,” Sgt. Brett Moore tells Global News.
Initial reports suggested the expressway might reopen before 7 a.m., however, police needed to extend the closure after learning a third vehicle had failed to remain at the scene of the collision.
“We couldn’t release the scene and open the highway up as quickly as we wanted to… we do apologize for that but it’s out of our hands when we have a crime to investigate. It sort of takes the time that it takes.”
