Just because the holidays are over and it’s getting colder out doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in January. Lots of things are happening around the city this month, and here are five events in particular you may want to mark on your calendar:
1. Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival – January 13-26 @ TIFF Bell Lightbox
Some of the country’s best motion picture talent will be featured here. TIFF will have several goings-on at the festival, including public screenings of the top ten Canadian films and Q&A sessions with the directors. The festival aims to promote and celebrate Canadian achievement in film, which is important considering how inundated we are with American culture.
2. Something Strange Circus Sideshow Festival – January 21 @ Mod Club
This is the second festival of its kind in Toronto, featuring Freak show artists from across North America and the world. It will be a night full of unbelievable stunts, including sword swallowing, pain-proof people, mentalists, and various other human marvels. This is a 19+ event, so leave the kids with a babysitter.
3. Louis C.K. – January 26 @ Air Canada Centre
Funnyman Louis C.K. returns to Toronto, and tickets are still on sale! If you’re a fan of his work, no doubt this will be a show to remember.
4. Beach Bash in The Six – January 27 @ Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada
This indoor 19+ beach party should help you warm up when the cold takes over outside. Tickets for this event include general admission, access to food & bar stations, and a ride on the surfing simulator. Ripley’s will even have a signature cocktail on hand at the Malibu Rum cash bar.
5. Winterlicious – January 27 – February 9 @ Participating Toronto restaurants
Winterlicious is always a great way to discover and try different cuisines around the city. Over 220 restaurants are taking part, offering a special price-fixed menu.
