Today marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of Glenn Frey, and in honour of his friend, Bob Seger has released a new tribute song.
“Glenn Song” recounts Seger’s long friendship with Frey, who died of pneumonia at the age of 67 on January 18, 2016. Back in September, Seger went to Nashville’s Ocean Way Studios to record the song.
He told Rolling Stone the track wasn’t meant to be a hit– it doesn’t even have a chorus. Seger recounted, “the idea was just to honour his memory and talk, very specifically, about my impression of him in 1966 when we first met.”
Both Seger and Frey grew up in Detroit, and were part of that city’s local rock scene during the mid-1960s.
