Gold medalists Nickel Ashmeade of Jamaica, Asafa Powell of Jamaica, Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Nesta Carter of Jamaica pose on the podium during the medal ceremony for the Men’s 4×100 Metres Relay final during day nine of the 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships Beijing 2015 at Beijing National Stadium on August 30, 2015 in Beijing, China.
Legendary sprinter Usain Bolt has been stripped of a gold medal won in relay event in 2008 in Beijing after his teammate tested positive for a banned substance.
The International Olympic Committee said Wednesday that re-analysis of sprinter Nesta Carter’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine.
Carter was a member of the team that won the men’s 4x100m relay event at the Olympic Games in 2008.
“The Jamaican team is disqualified from the men’s 4x100m relay event,” the IOC said in its decision. “The corresponding medals, medallist pins and diplomas are withdrawn and shall be returned.”
Bolt, who is known as the fastest man alive, now holds eight Olympic gold medals.
