Ever been fired? If so was it a complete surprise? Besides downsizing and budget cuts, which most of the time have little to do with a person’s abilities and performance, these are reasons why you might be escorted out of the building.
According to Business Week magazine these are the top reasons employers fire employees…
Reason #1: Attitude! Maybe you made it obvious you really didn’t want to be there, through your words, your actions, even your facial expressions. At work, you’re often judged more by your behaviour than by your performance.
Reason #2: You were the first one out the door every night. Of course, it’s not good to be married to your job, but when it’s crunch time, your boss has to feel confident that you’ll stick around till the job is done.
Reason #3: You opened your mouth about looking for another job. Absolutely do not share your intentions with co-workers unless you’re willing to have it get back to your boss. Go look for another job, but keep it to yourself until you are willing to make it public, to everyone.
Reason #4: You gossiped about your boss and your co-workers. This is one of the most destructive habits you can have, and we’ve all been guilty of it at one time or another. Badmouthing employees, however well deserved, is so negative to the team environment that it’s often a reason for termination. Keep those opinions to yourself.
