Do you know what your workiversary is? Mine is April 6, 1998. WOW 19 years ago today I started at Q107. Back then it was Pure Rock Q107 and I came on after Howard Stern. Good times. Feels like a lifetime ago.
I got to sleep in a lot later back then that I do remember. Stern would decide when his show would finish and there were times it would be at 10am, other times I would be waiting in the studio until after 11am. Some loved him and some didn’t but it was an experience and pretty cool to be on air after a legend like Howard Stern. In fact being part of a lineup for so long with rock and radio stars like Derringer, Kim Mitchell and Andy Frost has been an honour.
A lot has changed over the years both personally and professionally but one constant has been the amazing Q107 listeners. I mean that sincerely. We have so much fun together at work everyday. At least I do. I hope you do too.
With this being Q107’s 40th birthday I’ve thought a lot about my time here at Q. So many good memories, like the time I interviewed Jimmy Page over the phone and I was so nervous I would hang up on him or freeze up, but it went well, he was so easy to talk to. I once put Gene Simmons on hold because he called during my show on the hotline instead of his scheduled time with Jeff Woods and I didn’t know what to do I was young and terrified. Sorry Gene, do you mind holding? Yikes.
Remember the Toronto Maple Leaf Lucky Thong? It never really worked unfortunately but those were fun times.
Here is my Q and You memory you can post your own here. Thanks for the memories and here’s to another 19. Ok maybe not 19 but many more. XOX
