Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams pleaded with Stephens to turn himself in.
“I know, Steve, that you have a relationship with some of our clergy out here in northeast Ohio. I encourage you to give them a call and talk to them, and then talk to us and turn yourself in,” Williams said.
Stephens was employed at Beech Brook, a mental health facility for children, a spokesperson for the agency told KTLA.
“We are shocked and horrified like everyone else,” the spokesperson said. “To think that one of our employees could do this is awful.”

Stephens, who went by “Stevie Steve” on Facebook, is also said to have written several social media updates insisting that his claims about additional murders are real, Cleveland.com reports.
Police say they don’t know of any additional victims at this time. They described Stephens as a black man, six-foot-one, weighing 244 pounds, bald with a full beard, and wearing a dark blue and grey or black striped polo shirt. He was driving a white Ford Fusion.
The video of the killing remained on Facebook for nearly three hours before it was taken down and Stephens’ page deactivated.
“This is a horrific crime and we do not allow this kind of content on Facebook,” a spokesperson for Facebook said. “We work hard to keep a safe environment on Facebook, and are in touch with law enforcement in emergencies when there are direct threats to physical safety.”
WATCH: Suspect in alleged Facebook Live murder says he’s not being taken seriously over comments he killed others
This isn’t the first time Facebook Live has been used to broadcast an act of violence. In January, four people in Chicago were charged with hate crimes after they allegedly beat and taunted a disabled man while streaming the assault on the social media site.
Two months later and also in Chicago, a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped while around 40 people watched the live video, none of them reporting the attack to police.
