Gregg Allman best known for his work in The Allman Brothers Band and considered a rock and blues pioneer and who, with his late brother Duane, wrote many classic songs including Melissa and Whipping Post has died at age 69. According to a statement on his official website, Gregg “passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia. Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times.”
Earlier in 2017 he cancelled his tour and offered refunds to his fans. He is survived by Elijah Blue (his son with Cher) and his other children Michael, Devon, Delilah and Layla.
