The Trump brand’s management contract was bought out early and the name is officially being removed from the Toronto skyline. Canadian company, InnVest Hotels LP, acquired the luxury hotel for an undisclosed amount and is renaming it the St. Regis Toronto once the revamp is done.
A popular spot for protesters, the Trump tower is no more and significant renovations will be done to try and give this hotel a squeaky new image. The lobby and guestrooms will be redone, as well as new food and drink locations added. However, all of this pales in comparison to the name change. The U.S. president never owned the building, but this will still come as a bite. A lot of people are very happy about the development.
HOLY SHIT THE TORONTO HOTEL IS SCRAPPING THE TRUMP NAME THANK YOU I couldn't sleep knowing I was moving to a city with a Trump tower— Taran Plamondon (@TaranPlamondon) July 1, 2017
Sources say Toronto's Trump Tower could get a new name. So far the most popular option for a new name is LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE! 👍🤔— B. Graham (@brggoofy) July 14, 2017
Some people weren’t as impressed.
And others just had fun with it.
