It’s not just age that is causing you to forget things and not fully focus on tasks it could be because you’re working too much. If you’re over 40 you should only work 3 days a week according to a new study. Woo hoo sounds good but wait…
The study was done by experts at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research. They found working up to 30 hours per week is good for the cognitive function in your 40s but any additional overload causes your performance to decline.
Professor Colin McKenzie of the University of Melbourne believes that part-time work may benefit in preserving brain function at middle and older age. Although work can be good for the brain in some ways, it can trigger brain activity, at the same time working too long can lead to fatigue and stress, which potentially damages cognitive functions.
Working just 3 days a week sounds great, but unfortunately financially this just isn’t realistic. Not unless your job will pay you the same amount for a 3 day work week as they would a 5. That likely ain’t going to happen.
