Want the Pan Am Games

Tomorrow we'll find out whether we'll get to host the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. We're up against two South American cities, Bogota, Columbia and Lima, Peru. There are those who think this will be a great thing for the city, a chance to make up for the lost Olympic bids in 1996 and 2008. Then there are those who think we deserve better than the Pan Am Games. With all due respect, we deserve better. Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal get the Olympics, Vancouver and Montreal get Expos, and Toronto, the best city in the country, is supposed to get excited about the Pan Am Games. What do you think?

A city that strikes for months over garbage and stinks up its residence is not fit to host any games.

I have issues with the amount of money that taxpayers are asked to foot for the promise of tourist bux spent at the event. If we get the games just because we promise to spend money to beef up stuff--then the games should go somewhere else. If facilities are going to be built which will serve a good purpose after the Games--go for it! Montreal is the perfect example of a waste!

I am looking forward to Vancouver 2010.. for some reason I don't seem to be thinking too much about the Pan Am Games. Perhaps because we really don't see alot of publicity on it.

Wow - I don't think Toronto has anyone's respect. I'm not sure that the Pan Am Games bring in a lot of toursists - not sure if the $$ spent to host the games, will return lots of money back into the Toronto.

I think WAY too much money is spent hosting games of any sort - Olympic, Pan Am, whatever - for little in return other than to make athletes like Phelps and Bolt multi-millionaires. I appreciate the hard work of dedicated athletes, but it's not up to us to support their interest in events that few have any real interest in.

We're not too high up on the list of anyone's eyes to host much of anything. I'm not too sure the Pan Am Games would really pull in too much to make it worth while.

I work at one of the venues that will be part of the Pan Am Games, so yes, I want them here. Maybe if we do these right, we'll get the olympics

Although it MAY be a step toward getting the Olympics, the Pan-Am Games are REALLY just a glorified Americas party ! In the grand scheme of things, IF this helps Toronto get the Olympics, then it may have been worth it ... I hope that the "political backroom deals" does not PREVENT Toronto from once again, being given the short stick for the Olympics ... it really is TIME for Toronto ... can you say 2024 perhaps ? It would be a PERFECT fit, since Toronto really is the Multicultural Peace Capital of the World ! Go Toronto 2024
