"Can you pick me up a six-pack?"

"Would you be able to drive me to Montreal this weekend?"

"Can you hide all this illegal stuff for me for a few days?"

There's a cost to having friends that becomes apparent the more comfortable you get with each other.  Hanging out and doing stuff can, in times of need, give way to the asking of favours.

Thinking about it, isn't it amazing what your friends can talk you into?

Case in point: A few friends of mine recently started up the Toronto Twilight Rotary Club, formed to give young working professionals in the city a chance to socialize, network and give back to their community.

This Saturday night, they've decided to hold a special fundraiser at The Central (603 Markham Street) in support of Shelterbox Canada, which helps supply basic survival equipment and (logically) shelter to areas around the world hit by disaster.  Each Shelter Box provides a dry shelter, warm bed, light and heat, clean water, cooking aids and tools for 10 people.  Tickets for the event are $15 via PayPal or at the door.

Up for grabs during the night's silent auction are a variety of prizes, including tickets to see the Toronto Raptors and Marlies, gift certificates to local pubs and the chance to hang out with me.

No, really.

A few weeks back, they asked me if I'd be willing to give a station tour and have lunch with someone who would bid on me from the silent auction.

The things that friends ask.  It's in support of a good cause, so why not?  I'm hoping that I go for a good chunk of money, for the sake of Shelterbox Canada and my self-image (I'm worth a twenty, at the very least).

If you'd like to come out and show your support, click on the links above for more details.

In the meantime, what's the craziest thing your friends have talked you into?
