Wednesday on Derringer At Your Desk we discussed some of the great drum songs in classic rock. Ryan took Mitch Mitchell's insane fills in the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Fire", while Billy chose Michael Giles' work on King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man". At the top of my list was Cozy Powell's masterful work on Rainbow's "Kill the King". What's your choice?

Bonzo on Stairway to Heaven...I know, I know,...it's not cool to reference Stairway to Heaven on any top list..but just listen the last half of the song...a classic of the John Bonham "he was great for what he left out, not for what he put in" genre

Hi John,... This was sort of an unfair question...(a valid one) because there are so many great musicians (and percussionists’ ) out there it is hard to choose a (1 or 3) favorites. But hey looking at the response......(Radar Love - by Golden Earing) would be 1 of my (10)

Terry Bozzio on Jeff Beck's "Guitar Workshop" rocks on every song. It's must listen, and should put him on any list.

But lets not forget Carl Palmer, with a fond nod to the live version of Toccata from "Welcome Back My Friends . . ."

Moby Dick, of course. John Bonham was a god. I also love Nick Mason's drumming on 'One Of These Days'.

I'm torn, Johnny, between Ginger Baker's insanity on Blind Faith's 'Do What You Like' and Genesis' 'Los Endos' -- fantastic Phil Collins / Chester thompson duet!

Do not forget "The Rhythm Devils" - Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead. Extended segments of improvisational drumming and percussion by Hart and Kreutzmann who took over the stage as a duo. Must be seen to believe!

Nick Masons work on 'Echoes'. The build-up before the last verse and chorus are incredible. Very underrated career for that man.

There are alot of great drum songs. Aside from classics like Moby Dick and live version of YYZ, one song I like but seldom hear is the Keith Moon Tribute, "Under a raging Moon".
