'Legalise all Drugs', says Asher

Paul McCartney's ex- girlfriend Jane Asher has caused a fair degree of controversy in the UK by declaring that 'all drugs, even the hardest', should be legalised.
The 64-year-old actress, who famously dated The Beatles' bassist in the Swinging Sixties reckons that removing the criminal stigma from drug-taking is the "only hope for tackling widespread addiction across the UK".
Now, it may be that Miss Asher's recent experience of shooting a new TV series in Glasgow, close to the deprived area of Govan, has given the actress a skewed view of the scale of the problem of drug-taking. Although a very serious problem for the individual concerned, drug addiction is not a big problem in terms of the total UK population.
