If you want to live a longer healthier life you need friends. This according to a study out of Australia. They found people over the age of 70 with a large circle of friends were less likely to die during the study period than those with fewer friends.
Now I don't think that means you can eat burgers and fries every day and lie around on the couch and still live a long healthy life as long as you have your buds. Your friends certainly can bring happiness to your life though and protect against stress and depression. According to this study having a lot of close friends can actually boost your immune system and cardiovascular health.
