Recording sessions began on May 30th, 1968. The band used new 8-track technology for the first time but there were other firsts as well. Girlfriends were allowed in studio and guest artists played on some tracks. Drugs inflamed egos and there was friction between the four band mates.
Despite the chaos behind the scenes, the white cover of their new double album is stark simplicity. The band’s name was embossed on the front with a stamped serial number as the only other marking. And, on the 2 vinyl discs yet another ground breaking work of art.
