As expected, ticket action for the first two shows was strong on Monday, and a third show was quickly announced.

There's certainly a tremendous respect for Waters and The Wall, but let's face reality: this is not the world's most uplifting album, and when all the posers fade away, Roger Waters may emerge as the most successful "truly angry" entertainer in history. The man's sold a couple of hundred million albums, and has rarely smiled while doing it. Sure, he can be sullen and bitter, but he can also be heart-wrenchingly honest, and is willing to go places that have always been off-limits to songwriters.

Like The Wall, The Floyd have always been a tough one to describe. They're rock, but not ...

Happy Mother's Day...

...to all the Moms in the GTA.

Is being a full-time Mom better or worse than serving substantial time in a federal prison? You decide.

Prison Versus Housewives

In prison, you get three square meals a day.

At home, you cook three square meals a day and try to get your kids to eat it.

In prison, you get an hour each day in the yard to exercise and mingle.

At home you get to clean the yard up so you can mow it so your kids can spread more toys all over it so that you can go out and clean it again because little Jr. can't sleep without his latest lego creation.

In prison, you get to watch TV, cable even.

At home, you get to listen to your children fight over the remote control and get treated to hours and hours of mindless cartoons thanks to cable. ...

Monday Monday

Calvin Borel( or Bo-Rail, as they call him in Kentucky) comes up big again at the Kentucky Derby. He's a tremendous tactition, and plays with a clinical accuracy that's unsurpassed. Personally, though, I'll take the " Farewell to Kings" era Peart. An incredible talent playing with the abandon that's the sole arena of the young. Listen to Xanadu. The 136th Derby goes just before 6 30, and by then they're expecting over an inch of rain at Churchill Downs. It'll be like running a mile and a quarter on a bed of fresh peanut butter.

With prohibitive favorite Eskendereya out of the race, this one should be a long-shot player's dream. Anything can happen.

I may pop by WEGZ on Rutherford Road this aft and drop a few sheckles on a box that includes filly Devil May Care ( she ran like a champ in the muck this week), Nick Zito's Ice Box, and 10-1 Awesome Act.

Here's the question: If you could go to two shows this summer, one big venue and one small, what would they be?

I haven't seen Steve Miller in eons so that's the big one for me. Miller has a tremendous songlist going back to Space Cowboy and Livin' in the USA through The Joker, Jet Airliner and Rock'n'Me. It'll be a singalong jamboree at the Amphitheatre on June 30.

Small show? I'll go off the board for Tommy James and the Shondells for $100, Alex. Love the vibe, and Crimson and Clover and Draggin' The Line are favorites. James is at Rama on June 26.

How about you?

I hear that, like Planet Earth, you spend most of the film wondering " How did they get that shot?"

There's little doubt that the intricacies and complications of the planet's " Oceans" are way easier to understand than the plot of "Ocean's 13".

Update: Very good film. Not quite Planet Earth, but that bar was set at Sergey Bubka height. Some tremendous footage, including the amazing-looking narwhal whale, the one they call the "Unicorn of the Sea".

The environmentalist message is effortless yet crafty. Some shots near the end of the film amply describe the sins that man has committed upon the ocean. Truncheon over the head it's not, but it gets your attention. The flights, hurriedly announced by Air Canada in an effort to beat the cloud of ash moving briskly across the Atlantic, also included some of the performers from last night's Juno Awards. As if Air Canada had entered into a Ludlumesque conspiracy with the ruling government to keep a whack of wholly insignificant MP's on The Rock.Enough of the details. Enough of this sniping. Enough.

I'm not sure when it started to really go sideways, maybe a decade or so, but this constant bickering, fighting and blaming by ALL of Canada's political parties has gotten way out of hand. It's just as bad if not much worse in the States, but let's face ...

You Laugh or You Cry

On many an April day over the years, this city would have been buzzing, getting set for some serious playoff business. I think many of us remember those long Leaf springs as some of the best of our adult lives. Everything's better with a good playoff run.

The last Leaf playoff game was in 2004.

Don't get me started.

You can go to patburns.ca to add your name. Sometimes life forces you stretch, bend and play with the rules a bit in order to do the right thing. This is one of those times. The man is undoubtedly going to be a member of the HHOF one day and it's wholly reasonable to want him to be there for it. But, even if nothing comes of it, this petition shows Burns how many people love and respect him.

Watching the golf this weekend, it was like Tiger hadn't been away at all. Save for a quick conversation between Nantz and Faldo, you'd have never known there'd been a scandal. Some good golf so far, and I like Phil this afternoon. He's kinda hovered around, doing his thing, and appears to be in position.
